My client, an international utility, is looking for a Senior Global Analyst to work within their Corporate/Global Analysis Group
Purpose of the job:
The Global Market Analyst provides analytical support and insight and will be expected to lead many of the group’s projects and functions, provide market and valuation analysis support for corporate functions.
Key Accountabilities:
• To develop group level strategic models and to present analysis and results to Senior Management as required;
• To work with the regions to provide research and analysis on global issues affecting the group portfolio, this includes but is not limited to Oil and Environmental issues;
• Work with the Portfolio Finance and the regional commercial groups to ensure consistency in the budget and strategic modelling processes;
• Draft, review and assist in the implementation of the trading performance reporting across the regions;
• To provide supporting analysis as required for the Director of Global Trading when evaluating investment opportunities;
• Work with the Global Risk Manager and Global Analysis Manager on risk management reporting requirements, ensuring analysis developed is sound and best practice;
• To work with the Operations and Engineering team so that the latest information about technologies and costs are incorporated into group modelling;
• To provide a source of technical expertise in business and risk modelling for all regions
• Market and Valuation analysis in support for M&A projects where not covered by regional group.
Outcome, Results and Key Performance Indicators:
• Effectively communicate with the regional commercial groups to ensure effective and consistent analysis standards;
• Work with the regional risk groups and Global Risk Manager to introduce an ‘Earning at Risk’ approach;
• Introduce a research background papers developing and disseminating IPR views on significant global issues;
• Improve the valuation and analysis sections of investment papers;
• Improve the performance reporting process to monitor the trading and hedging performance of the regional commercial teams.
Dimensions of job:
The Global Analysis group reports directly to the Director of Global Trading. This is a new group with the remit to provide market analysis and strategic advice on the global markets to Executive Management and various Corporate functions. In addition, the group is intended to provide a centre of expertise of business analysis for the regions.
This is a senior level role designed for a person with sufficient relevant experience in business and commercial analysis

Liaise with relevant sections of the business, principally:
Director of Global Trading and Global Risk Manager
Regional Commercial Teams including Commercial Director and Analysis/Risk Managers
Corporate and Portfolio Finance
Operations and Engineering teams
M&A / Business Development
External:
Market Consultants and advisors
Transactional counterparties as required
Knowledge and skills:
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of numerical modelling techniques and packages (Excel VBA and other packages).
• Advanced economic and business analysis skills including statistics
• Understanding of valuation techniques such as DCF and financial derivatives
Commercial understanding
• Well developed and professional communication skills (oral, presentation and report writing)
• Prioritise work, manage time effectively and meet deadlines, especially for projects.
Experience:
Essential; experience of:
• Relevant experience in the Global Energy markets
• Commercial market analysis and deal valuation
• Development and roll-out of trading/risk or commercial reporting processes
• Working effectively in a small team environment
Desirable; experience of:
• Specific experience in the power markets
• Knowledge of power station or UK gas or power market economics
• Understanding of management accounts
Qualifications:
Degree (or equivalent) in an economics or other numerical discipline
